Dactah Chando è uno degli artisti reggae più interessanti e prolifici in lingua spagnola delle Isole Canarie. Con più di un decennio di attività alle spalle, ha all’attivo 10 album, numerosi singoli, collaborazioni con altri artisti e tour internazionali in Europa e America, dove si è esibito in festival di altissimo livello come Summerjam, Rototom, Ostroda, WeedbBeat, Afrika Tage Festival e Reeds Festival. Il suo ultimo album è intitolato Camino e noi lo abbiamo intervistato.
D. Parlami di Camino, il tuo decimo album…
R. Camino è l’immagine di me stesso in questo preciso momento, riflette la persona che sono ora attraverso le canzoni. È l’album più personale che abbia mai realizzato fino ad ora, in cui ho capito che la mia vita è un viaggio continuo che devo cercare di godermi.
D. Perché hai scelto questo nome? Cosa rappresenta?
R. Camino significa “via”, “sentiero” in senso spirituale e vitale. Ho scelto questa parola perché perché mi è stata rivelata più volte in questi ultimi anni dopo la crisi pandemica, e grazie a una pratica spirituale che ho fatto da allora, questa parola e il suo significato hanno una profonda risonanza in me e in questo preciso momento è dove mi trovo, muovendomi attraverso il mio “cammino”.
D. Com’è stato lavorare dopo 12 anni dal vostro album di debutto Clara con il produttore portoghese Guido Craveiro?
R. Lavorare con Guido è super facile e divertente, è un musicista incredibile e di talento, produttore e un buon amico e consigliere, è stato davvero emozionante fare queste canzoni con lui.
D. In cosa hai sperimentato maggiormente questa volta?
R. Ho avuto la possibilità di scrivere su alcune delle ultime produzioni di Guido, davvero una sfida per me, perché quella musica era così all’avanguardia per me, perché io mi sento più a mio agio con i suoni classici, ma l’ho fatto onestamente, senza aspettative, sempre chiedendo a Guido la sua opinione, e lui mi ha sostenuto e incoraggiato a continuare. È stato molto divertente!
D. Com’è la scena reggae nelle Isole Canarie ultimamente?
R. Ultimamente non va molto bene,… abbiamo avuto un bel movimento qualche anno fa, ma con la pandemia tutto è svanito. Abbiamo ancora alcuni buoni sound, dj, band e cantanti, ma oggi è difficile trovare una serata reggae o un concerto, ma credo sia una cosa temporanea. La buona notizia è che sta ricominciando a crescere.
D. Come hai iniziato a essere coinvolto nel mondo della musica?
R. Ho iniziato nel 2018, ho deciso di trasformare questa ossessione per la musica in una professione, ed è una bella cosa, il music biz è duro ma bello.
D. Mi parli di Achinech Productions?
R. Achinech Productions è la mia etichetta, il mio editore e la mia società di promozione. Sono CEO, quindi combino molti aspetti del mondo della musica nel mio lavoro quotidiano. Gestisco la società mentre cerco di mantenere la mia carriera musicale e molte altre cose.
D. Hai lavorato con molti produttori di peso come Umberto Echo, Roberto Sanchez o Rob Smith. In che modo queste esperienze hanno arricchito il tuo stile nel corso degli anni?
R. La possibilità di lavorare con loro ha cambiato tutto nella mia mente, nel mio modo di intendere la musica, perché non sono solo persone di grande talento, ma anche persone gentili e simpatiche, quindi sono doppiamente influenzato da loro, da come producono, da come usano le loro attrezzature, da come mixano. Sono fortunato a conoscerli e a mantenere la loro amicizia fino ad oggi, anche ora.
D. Prossimi progetti?
R. Portare “Camino” sui palchi, e altra musica nel corso del prossimo anno. Con Achinech come etichetta ho molti altri progetti diversi in corso, quindi sarà pieno di musica!!!

Q. Tell me about Camino, your 10th album…
A. Camino is the picture of myself at this very moment, reflects the person I am now thru songs. Its the most personal album I ever made till now where I understand that my life is a continuous journey I must try to enjoy.
Q. Why did you choose this name? What it represents?
A. Camino means “way”, “path” in a spiritual and vital sense, I choose that word because it was revealed to me several times this late years after the pandemic crisis, and thanks to a spiritual practise I´ve done, since then, that word and the meaning of it have a deep resonance in me, and in this very moment is where I am, moving thru my “path”.
Q. How was to work after 12 years from your debut album Clara with portuguese
producer Guido Craveiro?
A. Work with Guido is super easy and fun, he is such a incredible and talented musician, producer and a good friend and adviser, was really exiting to do that songs with him.
Q. In what did you experiment mostly this time?
A. I had the chance to write over some of the latest productions that Guido had, really a challenge for me, because that music was so avant-garde to me, because I feel more confortable with classic sounds, but I did it honestly, without expectations, always asking Guido for his opinion, and he was so supportive and encourages me to continue. Was so fun!.
Q. How is the reggae scene in the Canary Islands lately?
A. Its been no so good lately,..we has a nice movement few years back, but with the pandemic everything vanish, we still keep some good sounds, djs, bands and singers, but nowadays its hard to find a reggae night or a concert, I think is temporary, the good news is that is starting to grow again.
Q. How did you start to be involved in the music biz?
A. I staryed in 2018, I decided to make this obsession for music into a profession, and is quite a thing, music biz is hard but beautiful.
Q. Tell me about Achinech Productions…
A. Achinech Productions is my Label, Editing, Promotion company, I mean, I’m the CEO, so I combine many aspects of the music biz in my daily basis. I run the company while I’m try to keep my musical career, and many, many other stuff.
Q. Your worked with many heavyweight producers such as Umberto Echo, Roberto Sanchez or Rob Smith. How these experiences enriched your style through the years?
A. The chance to work with them changes everything in my mind in my way to understand music, because they’re not only super talented people, but ver nice and kind persons, so double influenced by them, in how the produce, how the use their equipment, how they mix, I’m blessed to know them, and to keep their friendship till now also.
Q. Next projects?
A. Bring “Camino” to the stages, and more music thru the next year, with Achinech as a label I have many other different project running, so its gonna be full of music!!
