Skarra Mucci presenta il suo nuovo album, Perfect Timing, un inno al reggae di tutte le epoche, con molti riferimenti alla cultura sound system. Dalla scelta dei featuring a quella dei beat realizzati da Undisputed Records, nulla è lasciato al caso in questo ottavo lavoro in studio dell’artista giamaicano, che offre un viaggio attraverso i momenti salienti di questa ricca cultura che non ha mai smesso di evolversi.
D. Mi parli del tuo nuovo album Perfect Timing…
R. È il mio ottavo album in studio, creato come sveglia per rafforzare la nostra gente e illuminare il loro modo di pensare sul percorso della vita di oggi.
D. La cultura del sound system vi è molto ben rappresentata. Perché questa scelta?
R. Rappresento la cultura del sound system nella mia vita quotidiana come artista reggae e performer dal vivo. Skarra Mucci è uno studente della cultura del sound system e fa parte delle fondamenta della storia del reggae dancehall giamaicano degli anni ’70/’80, con artisti dal vivo su sound system.
Perciò è impossibile non includere questo aspetto in ogni mio album.
D. In che modo questo tuo ottavo album è diverso dagli altri?
R. Come ogni figlio è diverso, anche se ha gli stessi genitori, così anche loro intendono differenziarsi. Perfect Timing è stato creato sulla base della realtà del mio percorso di vita e della mia visione del mondo di oggi. In cui gli esseri umani danno valore al denaro e a tutte le cose superflue al di sopra di se stessi e non hanno alcuna gratitudine per la vita o per ciò che hanno già.
Inoltre, non hanno alcun senso dell’amore per se stessi, ma solo dell’egoismo.
Le ispirazioni che ho avuto durante i miei viaggi e le sessioni di registrazione rendono questo album unico nel suo genere, con ispirazioni dalla musica di New York, dalla Giamaica, dall’ispanica, dal rock degli amanti più simile a quello del Regno Unito.
D. Puoi parlarmi dei featuring presenti nel disco?
R. Sì, sono stati scelti con oculatezza da me e dalla Undisputed Records che ha lavorato in famiglia. Volevamo amici e artisti vicini nell’album, Johnny Osbourne e io siamo stati su tanti palchi in tutto il mondo, come in India e in Uk, quindi è stato naturale scegliere lui… Entourloop e Yaniss Odua sono miei fratelli da anni ormai, quindi lavorare con loro è come giocare a calcio con dei buoni giocatori. Ti mettono in una zona di comfort.
D. Parlami dei beat di Undisputed Records. Com’è stato lavorare con loro?
R. Undisputed Records è la mia etichetta dal 2014, lavoriamo a stretto contatto su tutte le tracce per ottenere il miglior risultato, lui è più che direzione musicale e dell’arrangiamento più del beat. Scegliamo i musicisti e i riddim maker che creano i beat e Inity di Undisputed è anche il mio manager e il miglior socio in affari di sempre, quindi registrare con il team è sempre facile.

D. C’è spazio anche per il roots in Mistry Babylon. Ti senti più a tuo agio su questo tipo di riddim o su quelli più dancehall?
R. Beh, sai, non scelgo i riddim in questo modo.
Se ci penso forse sì, forse no, ma lascio che sia la musica a ispirarmi e il mio spazio energetico, quindi è la sensazione che decide la direzione della canzone e la melodia e se il ritmo si connette con me e con i miei pensieri. Credo che dovresti controllare la mia discografia: ci sono un sacco di canzoni nell’area roots rock reggae ma non molti suonano.
D. State lavorando a qualcosa di nuovo?
R. Sì, lavoriamo sempre in laboratorio senza sosta, ora sto lavorando ai nuovi video. 2 o 3 sono in arrivo prima di Natale e stiamo pianificando la seconda parte del tour quando tornerò qui.
Inoltre, a giugno pubblicheremo un’edizione deluxe per i 10 anni dell’album Greater Than Great.
D. Stai pensando di trasferirti di nuovo altrove?
R. No, non ora perché sono in tournée, ma a dicembre tornerò in Giamaica per un periodo di riposo. Non vedo l’ora di tornare sulla mia isola e godermi il cibo e le vibrazioni.
D. Parlami del tuo prossimo tour…
R. Il mio tour è già iniziato il 7 ottobre con un concerto enorme a Innsbruck in Austria, e un’esplosione lo scorso venerdì a Falmouth in Inghilterra, maad vibes e ci stiamo preparando per circa altri 20 concerti (Spagna, Francia, Svizzera, Londra…) fino alla fine dell’anno. Passerò per l’Italia il 7 dicembre a Milano. Spero di vederti ad uno di questi concerti…

Q. Tell me about your new album Perfect Timing…
A. It’s my amazing 8th Studio album created as wake up call to strengthen our people and brighten their way of thinking on the path of life today.
Q. The sound system culture is very well represented in it. Why this choice?
A. I represent sound system culture in my daily life as a reggae artist and live performer. Skarra Mucci is a student of the sound system culture, and apart of the foundation of Jamaica’s 70/80ies reggae Dancehall history of live artist on sound system.
So it’s impossible to leave that out of any album of mine.
Q. How this eighth album of yours is different from the others?
A. Like every child is different even from the same parents they intend to differ. Perfect Timing was created based on reality of my life journey and my view of the world today. Where humans value money and all unnecessary things above themselves and has no thankfulness for life or what they already have.
They also gave no sense of self love only selfishness.
My inspirations during my travels and recording sessions make this album unique, you have inspiration from music out of New York, Jamaica, Hispanic, lovers rock more like in the UK
Q. Can you tell me about the featurings in it?
A. Yes they were choose wisely by me and Undisputed Records, so working as the family. We wanted close friends and artists on the album, Johnny Osbourne and me we’ve been on so many stages all over the world like India, Uk so it was natural to choose him… L’Entourloop & Yaniss Odua are my brothers since years now so working with them, is just playing footballs with good players. They put you in a comfort zone.
Q. Tell me about the beats by Undisputed Records. How was to work with them?
A. Undisputed Records has been my label since 2014 we work closely on all track for the best result, he is more than musical direction and arrangement more than the beat. We choose musicians and riddim makers who create the beats and Inity of Undisputed is also my manager and the best business partner ever, so recording with the team is always easy to blaze a fyah.

Q. There’s room also for roots in Mistry Babylon. Do you feel more confortable on these kind of riddim or on more dancehall ones ?
A. Well you know I don’t choose riddims in this way.
If i think about it maybe yes maybe no but I let the music inspire me and my energy space, so it’s the feeling that decides the direction of the song and the melody, and if the beat connects with me and my thoughts. I think you should check my discography there loads of song in the roots Rock Reggae area but not much plays.
Q. Are you working on something new?
A. Yes we always working in the lab non stop, now I’m working on the new videos. 2 or 3 are coming minimum before Christmas and we are planning the second part of the tour when I come back here.
Also for June, we gonna release a deluxe edition for the 10 years of the Greater Than Great album.
Q. Are you thinking to move again somewhere else?
A. No not now because I’m on tour but going I’m back to Jamaica in December for resting.. Can’t wait to come back on my island and enjoying the food and vibes.
Q. Tell me about your next to tour…
A. My tour already started on the 7th October with a massive concert in Innsbruck Austria, and a blast last Friday in Falmouth England, was really maad vibes and we are gearing up for about 20 more concerts (Spain, France, Switzerland, London…) until the end of the year I will pass through Italy on the 7th December in Milano.
